Historic Home Tour and Mount Holly Cemetery Carriage Tours

The Downtown Dames are proud of their partnership with Little Rock Horse and Carriage Company and are pleased to present the residents of Little Rock and our visitors from around the world the opportunity to savor Little Rock’s history at its very best—from a horse drawn carriage.

Historic District Home and Carriage Tour: Focuses on the earliest history of Little Rock dating from 1818. Leaving from the River Market Pavilion, this 15 block, one hour tour by horse and carriage features over 20 homes and notable events from the “pioneer” Little Rock through the antebellum era to the Victorian era. Learn the history behind the hanging of David O. Dodd and the antics of the Arkansas Traveler.

Mount Holly Cemetery Tour: Features a slow carriage ride through hallowed ground. Dating from April 1843, Mount Holly is the final resting place of Little Rock and Arkansas’ most notable figures. Visit 7 structures and the graves of over 25 of Little Rock’s most distinguished individuals. Learn the story of Quatie Ross, the wife of Cherokee Chief John Ross, who died on the trail of tears. Visit the grave of David O. Dodd, Boy Martyr of the South, who at the age of 17 was hung at the hands of Union troops after being tried as a Confederate spy.
